COMPOSITE (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2003)

2. noun: an estimated likeness of a face created from eyewitness descriptions.
COMPOSITE ist eine Soundinstallation, gebildet aus einem Feld kleiner Lautsprecher, die in einem Gewirr langer Elektrokabel ein ruhiges Murmeln von sich geben. Hört man einem der Lautsprecher genau zu, lässt sich eine Person vernehmen, die »Dich« adressiert und »Deine« Persönlichkeit in mehr oder weniger genauen Einzelheiten beschreibt. Die Stimmen gehören zu verschiedenen Personen der Münchner Kunstszene, die von der Künstlerin gebeten wurden, eine andere Person dieser Szene zu beschreiben. Wenn auch keine Namen und physische Merkmale erwähnt sind, mag man sich selbst (oder andere) in den Audio-Porträts erkennen.
In einem weiteren Raum zeigt Lynn Lu Videos verschiedener Performances, die sie in den Jahren 2002 bis 2005 auf unterschiedlichen Performance-Veranstaltungen aufgeführt hat, so auf dem Nippon International Performance Art Festival (NIPAF), Asiatopia Performance Art Festival (Thailand), Interakcje International Performance Art Festival (Polen), Future of Imagination Performance Festival (Singapur) und Dalat International Performance Festival (Vietnam). Am Abend der Eröffnung wird Lynn Lu eine Live-Performance im Raum 58 aufführen.
»In my practice of performance art, I use the human body as the primary instrument for observing the way we understand the nature of our existence, through the investigation of everyday human activities. The presence of the physical body is used as the main medium of presenting (vs representing) meaning (vs message). Objectively familiar actions are recontextualized to give rise to meanings beyond what they ordinarily represent, in the way a poetics based on words, through figuration, changes the usual meanings of language. Thus the work is also an investigation of how we engage with and derive meaning from visual language, and of finding the apt marriage between meaning and media that can transcend the boundaries of verbal communication.«
